Eastern Alps

Eastern Alps In the Eastern Alps, almost exclusively metamorphic rocks are found. Their origins can be traced back to the folding of the Alps, and are evidence of the tremendous pressures and high temperatures in the underground during orogeny (the formation of mountains).

The collision of the two continents of Eurasia and Africa caused the folding. Of special interest to mineral collectors: The numerous crevasses in which outcroppings of quartz, pericline, rutile, adular, sphene, and many other minerals.
