The Locusts of South Tyrol
Research on the Dissemination in Recent Times of Locusts in South Tyrol
With 82 registered species in South Tyrol (Hellrigl 1996), the locusts represent a medium-size group of insects. They are important bioindicators, yet the information on their recent distribution in South Tyrol is scanty and inexact. This project aims to remedy this problem. The focus is on the research of the horizontal and vertical distribution of the orthopterans. Further, the attempt will be made to explain, ecologically and zoo-geographically, the resultant findings. The information on the distribution of the species will be evaluated in a 12.6 x 11 km grid (Grundfelder).
