Libraries are a prerequisite for performing research. The Museum has its own library, which is currently available for use in particular by Museum coworkers in carrying out their day-to-day tasks. The library's focus is on international identification literature and specialized publications on regional Natural History, as well as on Museum Sciences (theory of museums, museum organization, museum technologies, the preservation and preparation of specimens, etc.). The Museum attaches special importance to the purchase of important historical works, including periodicals.
In 2004, the Museum Library grew to encompass an additional 1,456 medium units (excluding subscriptions to periodicals and magazine sharing). At present, the Museum Library contains more than 5,000 medium units (excluding subscriptions to periodicals and magazine sharing). And then there are another 4,000 separate items. In the framework of the worldwide magazine sharing program with “Gredleriana“ and “Geo.Alp“, our inventory of specialized periodicals has shown marked growth since 2004. At present, 430 periodicals are available at the Museum.
